On June 1, 2009, Apple will announce the release of what it calls “the most revolutionary application yet” for its iPhone brand of cellular telephone.

At a recent tech show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jobs described his latest iPhone app:

“iPhone users currently enjoy the greatest collection of apps in the industry. With a touch of the screen, you can turn your iPhone into a compass, game player, or a GPS.

Now, we’ve done something truly revolutionary. We’re going to allow you to talk to other people in real time from your iPhone. That’s right. With our new app, you’re going to be able to punch in a few numbers and be able to talk directly with other people. We call it a ‘telephone’ app, and it’s going to change communication forever.

Wendell Donaldson, chief editor for tech magazine We’re Really Not Complete Dorks. Really. was allowed to use a demo of the new telephone app. ‘It is amazing. I was able to dial a couple of numbers and talk to people. Their voices come out through a little hole at the top of the iPhone and I speak into a little microphone at the bottom.

Initially, I was speechless. Then I realized that defeats the point, so I started talking. The other person could here me loud and clear. No more texting and emailing for me. I’m going to start telephoning people.’

Jobs estimates that his new telephone application will be especially popular among drunk single guys, especially at 3:30 a.m.

I’m a blogging machine today.  Too bad for you none of it is interesting.  I think I have a good grasp on the iPhone vs. Blackberry analysis. I understand that there is no one device that will have everything that everyone needs, so ultimately it comes down to a personal decision.  The thing is I hate personal decisions.  I can be prone to over-analyze leading to paralysis by analysis.  Thus, this post.

I get about 300 emails a day — only 10% of which are directly to me.  The remainder are to various list servs that I belong to.  Many of them are junk that I don’t need and can immediately delete, but I have to subscribe to them because many of the emails either lead to case referrals or contain information that I can use in my practice.

My case management system (I’m a lawyer) is web-based, so I need to have a good Internet browser.  The browser on my Blackberry Curve sucks, but it’s a great email device and I can mass delete, which I understand you can’t do on the new (or old) iPhone. I’ve read that on the iPhone, you have to check each email and then hit “delete.”  That will stink.  However, my Blackberry simply won’t work for my case management system, which I’m in love with and can’t do without.  So, what’s a fella to do?  Are there any lawyers or other folks out there who receive lots of emails and also need a good Internet browser?  If so, what route are you going?  Is there something else beside Blackberry and iPhone that I’m missing?
