And Now George Carlin Is Dead

Posted by supercynic on June 23, 2008

Earlier I asked, What is going on? when I heard that Tim Russert had died; his death on the heels of Harvey Korman.  Now George Carlin is dead. I can’t believe this.

George Carlin was one of those incredibly gifted comedians that could see all the angles and over his career, he managed to make just about everyone mad at some point or another, but regardless of whether I agreed with him about this or that, he always made me laugh, and think.

I would never wish death on anyone, but you have to admit there are some people who are better suited to depart this place than Harvey Korman, Tim Russert, and George Carlin. God bless them all and their families. For Carlin, may “the big electron” bless you.

I heard Carlin once in a casino venue (i think vicksburg) about ten years ago, and he was so offensive in terms of his treatment of faith and religion I almost walked out. Which is surprising because I grew up memorizing carlin jokes, even though i think supercynic was the only one who ever laughed at them! I tried to get people to like me when i was in high school by trying out the latest Carlin joke and sometimes it worked I have at least two friends to date haha.

So George’s death should be noted, but honestly looking at his life achievements and the good he did for anyone else but himself, is there anything else to say?

I’m not sure even the great electron in the sky will help him now.

revbill — at long last, after all these years, I must confess to you…………… I was fake laughing. I was just too dear of a friend to let you flop. Now that we’re all grown up and “mature,” I can come clean about these things.

I can’t believe you were offended by Carlin’s treatment of religion. He was making fun of the brand of religion I subscribed to at the time, and that I’ve now, literally thank God, been delivered from; not your brand. The extreme forms of religion may be deserving of a critic, a comic, or someone to shake things up a bit. Granted, I don’t know what the hell that whole “big electron” bit was about, but he didn’t offend me. But I agree, unlike Richard Pryor who never lost that bite, Carlin did slip in his old age.

oh, no wonder we didn’t have any other friends except suresh. my jokes were too poor, haha

When I saw him in person, he was taking down anything to do with theology, not just a way of religion.
