In Chapter 3 of my book “Chess Ain’t For Babies,” I describe how not only is chess boring for newborns, but the bishops and rooks pose a risk of choking. Pawns will just pass right through their digestive systems. But if they’re made in China (the chess pieces, not the babies), there is a lead paint issue to consider even for the pawns.
